Breaker trip?

Unread post by Metryq » Wed Sep 06, 2017 5:33 pm

"Burning Bright," the most recent TPOD article on novas, made me wonder what happens to the other stars in such a circuit when their neighbor goes nova. Do they trip their breakers? Go into a Maunder minimum? Is there any observational data that might be interpreted?

Just saw this from SuspiciousObservers that looks at sun's activity:
Today: [Great Solar Flare (SO-Youtube)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQXu4JmbvzU)

So tomorrow you can see how a flare influence the circuits on Earth. ;-)

About the question:
If a star goes nova, it will produce a larger concentration of ionized particles.
And this will increase any currents flowing through it.
This may give some sightings of electrical discharges.
It also increases the magnetic fields produced by these currents,
which will trigger other circuits.
It think this will cause rings and lights brightening up in these rings.
