E/M braking

Unread post by johnm33 » Wed May 23, 2018 3:46 am

This is more of a question than ni/mi, has anyone worked or discussed electromagnetic braking and it's affect on the temperature [through translation of kinetic energy] of meteorites, or comets for that matter? Don Scotts recent work would suggest observable accelerations/decelerations and bending of trajectories, and if the planets charge field is repulsing, at least iron/nickel, meteorites that [e/m braking] would make more sense to me than burning up in almost non existent gasses in the outer atmosphere.

It isn't "braking" that causes asteroids to explode, it's induction.

But it is possible that they slow down because of a magnetic effect and this would be breaking.

We know asteroids slow down when in atmosphere, so they should also slow down in the plasma atmosphere of a star.

Eddy Current brakes are used on engine and chassis dynamometers and as auxiliary driveshaft brakes on log trucks to avoid potential of forest fire because some diesel engine "Jake" or exhaust brakes can result in carbon soot sparks out the exhaust. Eddy current brakes get as hot as friction brakes when they absorb an equal amount of energy.
