Can EU explain this "merging" as well as explain it's rarity? Can it offer differing predictions?

Nothing is merging. There is also just 1 object. This is probably the birth of an astron, they are peering into the center of the Z-Pinch.

Maybe fissioning, not merging? How long should it take if it is to become 2 stars?
