Your photos have been non sequiturs..
:?
In who's opinion? Other than yours?
And how? Do you have any other suggestions for my edification? :?

You are attempting to drive a wedge between EU and science. Why? You grasp at ghosts to prove your point, such as low gravity produces anomalies that are quite normal avalanches, that EU mistakes as Discharge formations. Am I in error? :?

May I suggest that you become EU's expert, in house, to go to for vetting images of dendritic ridges. ;)

Re: Angles of repose in low g explain Mars, asteroid and com

Unread post by Sparky » Fri Dec 06, 2013 1:14 pm

Let's start simply...
:?
Do the concepts of static and dynamic angles of repose not go a long way* in explaining terrain found, say, on Earth?
Yes. ;)
The sharp relief on Comet Tempel 1 was a surprise to those holding the standard model of comets.
As was other surprises... ;)
The sharp relief was not a surprise to EU supporters.
idonno.. :?

But both factions were unaware at the time of the relationship between angles of repose and g.
I don't know who knew what when... :?

Sharper relief is to be expected for loose granular material in reduced g because the static angle of repose increases, and the dynamic angle of repose decreases.
Okaay....You've shown that. ;)
Wiggle as you might, this new finding is a contender for explaining the surprisingly sharp relief.
Yes, as you have shown. ;)

Okay, it's important...

To supplement this discussion on the various wya in which dendritics can be formed
you can refer to several directories at http://para-az.com/directories

Fluid dendritics show both wave-formed dendritics and tail-flow dendritics.

eltricu-lbgrp has the electric discharge effect along coronal pathways.

There is even vibration-formed/gravity assisted features. d...z

Wow. I'm attempting to drive a wedge between EU and science?

All I did was to show photos of ridges in sand here on Earth that look a bit like those on Mars, and suggested the mechanism might be the same.

Dave Talbott thought enough of them to call me to chat about them. I believe he was very impressed with them, but you can ask him yourself.

Why the hostility? (Never mind; rhetorical question...)

A counter to the idea that angles of repose vary by gravity

Unread post by Max Photon » Wed Dec 11, 2013 7:06 am

From Geophysical Research Letters:

Avalanche slope angles in low-gravity environments from active Martian sand dunes

This article directly counters the finding found in this thread's opening post's article.

That is, this article uses the avalanche slopes on Mars to argue that dynamic angle of repose does NOT vary with g.

So, ... whether angles of repose vary with g seems to be unsettled.

max, "So, ... whether angles of repose vary with g seems to be unsettled." :?

Max, please don't confuse me. :? Let's just agree that they do, and should be part of any equation evaluating observations. :D

max, "Why the hostility? "

I am very sorry. My observation was in error and my response was out of line. :(

sorry... :(

This has actually been a recurring trend that I've noticed with your comments. It's never intentional but a lot of what you say is misinterpreted because of the lack of tone and other verbal information that is lost in messages. Smilies make it worse.

I think you can agree that when you say
Since you are much smarter than I am, I thought a hint is all you needed...
or
I have no pigs in this race, so attempting to figure out these things is not productive for me, just an interest, if well presented :?

It can very easily be misinterpreted that you are acting pretentiously.
Another factor that may be contributing to the problem is that your comments are self-deprecating. You have complimented the intelligence of others while disregarding your own. EU theory is very much a new paradigm, and while it may be assumed that everyone knows about the science they're discussing, we're all trying to investigate, learn, interpret, and scrutinize our ideas into something that could be true and testable. The thunderbolts community and this forum is all about that process.

Max Photon was not wrong to say that your photos were non sequiturs. He could have worded it less confrontationally, but this was all a product of a misinterpretation that your comments were a reproach to him.

What can be misunderstood will be misunderstood

These are all dangers from the lack of information provided from discussions in text, so the best way to avoid these unnecessary battles is to avoid relying on smilies to give our context facial body language and simply be clear and not cryptic to avoid things that can be misinterpreted.

That goes for everyone -- including myself -- which is why I talk like this on the forum.

Well there are a few big rocks there with awfully flat edges.

Am I getting warm ?

So, that is where the discussion should be taking place. Not here.

This is nothing more than the hijacking of a thread for the purpose of promoting a conspiracy theory. It will not be tolerated and the offending posts have be deleted.
The essence of the issue is that NASA and other space agencies are suppressing evidence of civilization on Mars. This conspiracy has to involve hundreds or even thousands of people in those agencies as well as their governments and the military.
I did not write the forum rules, but it seems to me to be an easy read and leaves little room for interpretation on this issue:
This is not the place for wild speculation or conspiracy theories, and there are many other forums suitable for that purpose.
PLEASE RESPECT THE FORUM RULES AND GUIDELINES.
