The history is the Eddington experiment during the 1919 solar eclipse provided the crucial evidence for Einstein's theory of general relativity by allowing astronomers to observe the bending of starlight around the Sun. This observation confirmed Einstein's prediction that massive objects like the Sun warp spacetime, affecting the path of light passing nearby.

Why is it so important for some people to discredit Einstein?

Well as you put it, I simple don't agree that "bending of starlight" means "warp[ing] spacetime". Since apparently without the warp and spacetime you couldn't bend star light anyway. The theory of GR is full of such nonsense. And yet, the most obvious physical proven solution to the supposed 'problems' with the theory (which requires more and more 'proof' all the time to Sell the Theory endlessly) is completed ignored. Entire Science Projects wasted on chasing black holes. What more could I say. E is the root of the real problem and solution.

I redd the Li paper.
I reckon that there are two effects slowing Li's photons. Each contributes 50% to bending of light.
(1) Photons suffer slowing due to the aetherwind krosswind effect of aether flowing/accelerating into Earth (where aether iz annihilated).
(2) Photons suffer slowing due to photaeno drag. Mass emits photaenos, & photons fight the photaenos for the use of the aether. The greater the photaeno & photon congestion then the slower the photons (& the slower the photaenos).

These 2 effects are not due to gravity. But gravity arises from similar sources. In other words gravity & little g are affected in the same ways, & gravity iz associated with Li's results, but gravity iz not causal.
