Re: Useful pictorial/science resources...
I'm not certain this fits within the scope of being a valuable resource, but it's certainly interesting:
October 28, 2008 Fireball

http://www.heliotown.com/Fireballs_Octo ... craft.html
and if this post doesn't fit within this topic, maybe it can moved to a more appropriate one?

Re: Useful pictorial/science resources...
Geophysical Institute --> SuperDARN (Super Dual Auroral Radar Network) http://superdarn.jhuapl.edu/index.html went live on 11.10.08 Lots of data archives and a VERY interesting movie, similar to the NOAA/POES Auroral Oval animations/movies. Data for the movie is updated every 10 minutes. Movie can be seen here: http://superdarn.jhuapl.edu/rt/map/movie/index.html There is also a tutorial on site that is very well done in that the data gathered and used by SuperDARN is explained. All the tutorial sections are in *.pdf
A note on the movie, it does take time to fully load even with a high speed connection. The movie appears to be a visual of the earth's electrical connection to the sun ...almost as if you were watching the termination point of a Birkeland current since the movie depicts the difference in charge potential across the northern polar region along with plasma irregularities as they develop. I'm not saying that it is, just that this is how I would visualize such a termination point.

Hi Dragoneye,
I was just reviewing a GIF movie, of Venus in IR as I recall. The polar region view shows the same Birkeland-current-like rotation.
Unfortunately, i didn't keep a record, where I got the movie. Perhaps from this forum.
Happy New Year!

Here's one that may be similar to what you've described? (Scroll about 1/3 down the page if you land at the top of the page).Osmosis wrote:Hi Dragoneye,

Hi arc-us, This one is very similar to the one I saved. Also, note the hint of a hexagon in the UV photo of the south pole
And a Happy New Year to you!
